Idols controversy

South African Idols, don't only produce singers who's fame goes off at the same time as the shows cameras goes off, they also creates tons of controversy.
The drinking Mara

The latest controversial act to hit the reality competition is the one of Mara Louw who was drunk during the show, the audience noticed this and they started tweeting about it. According to the Herald, the M-net management denied that Mara was drunk but rather they claimed she was on pain medication because she had sprained her foot during the rehearsals. “She took strong pain medication” Lani Lombard, M-Net's communications manger was quoted saying.
On the other hand Mara did admit on 5FM that she indeed was drunk. She claimed that Gareth Cliff gave her vodka before the show. On the interview with John Robbie of Talk Radio 702, she said she had in fact vodka and Red Bull and taken pain medication for a broken bone in her foot.
What Mara had:
  • Red bull
  • Painkillers
  • Vodka
Last year the very same show made headlines when they crowned the wrong person as the winner. Sasha Lee Davids was declared a winner but they later realized that the rightful winner was Jason Hartman. Then their excuse or should we say reason was that the service providers had a "technical problem".
Our question now is; was the technical team drunk as well? Think about it; if Mara has guts to drink at work and actually be shown on TV drunk, it is possible that the technical team was drunk during last year’s idols final that they did not notice the error on time. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion what's yours?
