SAFTA 2012

The 6th annual South African Film and Television Awards (SAFTA's) were this weekend, and while SABC 1's  Intersexions stole the show, taking home a record breaking 11 awards, ETV announces their withdrawal from the award show.

Last night South African's celebrated their local celebrities winning accolades for their performances on the big and small screen. Some of the winners included Tumisho Masha for his portrayal as Modise Tladi  in The Wild and Karin Van Der Lagg as Maggie in Isidingo. The cast of Isidingo latter shared the stage with Lagg when they won the award for Best TV Soap.

However the award show did come with it's own dose of controversy, when ETV announced that all their shows that were nominated have been with-drawled. ETV has released a statement saying:
ETV remains committed to acknowledging the local film and television industry as a whole. It is unfortunate that we have had to withdraw our programming from the SAFTAS but we feel that it is necessary to do so in order to achieve greater organisation cohesion. The channel is not in a position to share its reasons at this stage and will do so once it has completed discussions with interested parties.
The SAFTA's came under further fire, when they decided to scrap the Best Actress in a Feature Film category as not enough actresses were eligible for the award.
