Mi Casa burst on to the scene back in 2011 with their crossover hit, These Streets but in a recent interview with Rolling Stone Magazine the lead singer, J'Something opens up about Liqudeep comparisons and when can we expect a follow up to their SAMA nominated album, Mi Casa Music.
In the last year soulful, house trio Mi Casa has changed the landscape of South African music. Mo-T, J'Something and Dr Duda are up for five South African Music Awards including Album of the Year, Record of the Year and Best Group. But no one is more surprised with their sudden success than the group themselves. Lead singer, J'Something explains:
"Every time we look back on everything, we're like wow did this really happen? This is really like a dream come true for us. To be connected with so many people for the right reason."
The group is often compared to SAMA award-winning house duo, Liquideep who gave us house anthems like Fairytale and Alone but J'Something dispels these comparisons. "We never set out to create a group to compete with Liquideep. It was just about wanting to do what we love. One song led to two songs and then we had an album there was no blueprint."
In our opinion Mi Casa is more authentic in the production of their music. They invite the listener in by showcasing their versatility as songwriters and musicians. Mi Casa is hoping to continue their success by releasing their second album in 2013. While we wait have a listen to their next single La Vida below:
