Breakout Artist of the Year:

2010 has been the year of divorces, scandals and collaborations but each year there’s a particular entertainer who reshaped and redefined the entertainment industry. Can you guess whose TRC’s “Breakout Artist of the Year” is?

She's been dubbed the black version of Lady Gaga, which is understandable as both of them are iconic, dramatic and innovative. It's none other than the "Harajuku Barbie" better known as Nicki Minaj!

The first lady of Young Money certainly wasn't an overnight success after releasing a host of mixtapes including “Playtime Is Over”, "Beam Me Up Scotty" and “It’s Barbie Bitch” the Harajuku Barbie caught the attention of four time Grammy award winner, Lil Wayne.

We believe the defining moment came when Minaj was the only female hip-hop artist featured on the smash hit “Bedrock” with Young Money. Continuing the success of “Bedrock” Minaj became hot property working with artists such as – Mariah Carey, Ludacris, Usher, Trey Songz, Jay Sean, Drake, Kanye West and Christina Aguilera to name a few.

On November 19th 2010 – Nicki Minaj turned every Friday into a Pink one! With her release of her first debut album titled “Pink Friday”.

So far the album has sprawled three singles, “Your Love”, “Check It Out” (Featuring Will.I.Am) and “Right Thru Me”, Minaj has been very vocal about the project and admits that the record is a way of celebrating femininity. By bringing women together with the use of music:
I felt like for so many years I was the girl who did the catch little raps, and it’s time for me now to tell my story, and in telling my story, I’m really telling every girl’s story. We all go though the same thing. So the album is gonna fell very personal to every female.”
