Drogba strikes again
Chelsea FC striker, Didier Drogba received the Beyond Sport's Humanitarian in Sports Award for his peace efforts in his home country, Ivory Coast.
The Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast) captain led his national team in the 2010 FIFA World Cup and has been extremely influential in the socio-political issues this African nation faces. Just this year alone more than 3000 people were killed in the aftermath of the elections.
Whilst receiving the award Drogba said: "everybody knows the war in Ivory Coast has been devastating and I'm really proud because I've been fighting for peace in Africa" The Didier Drogba Foundation not only provides financial support but also has initiatives and projects that concern health and education.
"If I was a politician my words would touch a part of the people because I am a sportsman and I am neutral, my message can touch more people. Sports, and football are really fantastic because you can use your voice to send messages and go beyond sport."
